Garnett Refrigeration was founded in 1957 by John Garnett Jr. Mr. Garnett; a World War II veteran, created the company in order to provide commercial refrigeration and heating service to Fredericksburg businesses and residences. At that time, central air conditioning systems in houses were very rare and the luxury of year round climate control was mostly reserved for downtown department stores and movie theaters. For the next two decades Garnett Refrigeration continued to grow along with the Fredericksburg area. The business incorporated in 1973 and became an authorized dealer for General Electric Weathertron heat pumps and air conditioners in 1980. Shortly after, the Trane Company purchased the General Electric air conditioning division and began mass marketing for residential air conditioning systems. In 1987, Garnett Refrigeration moved from Route 3 to its current location, 9821 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania County. Today, Garnett Refrigeration is a fully insured, class A mechanical contractor that is licensed in HVAC. The Garnett family continues to own and operate the business. It is staffed with over thirty highly trained professionals providing design, engineering and installation of heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems for commercial buildings and custom homes.
